Message from the Principal
Congratulations to Year 10 boys: Champions of the Peterborough United EFL Kinder and Sport Boys Futsal Tournament!!

I am so proud of their determination to attend and despite a few setbacks they managed to enter the event and become worthy winners.  In the absence of their regular coach, they were mature in organising who was playing and when to substitute players. They were great team players supporting and encouraging each other from the side-lines.  They were also excellent ambassadors for the school showing appropriate respect to the other teams.

Whilst the award goes to these talented footballers, may I publicly thank Mrs Patman and Mrs Gwilliam for making this happen.

On Thursday 22nd February the Year 10 football team, consisting of Louis Griggs Captain, Ryley Barfoot, Daivaras Ksenzovas, Adam Lock, Lemar Moore, Charlie Orbell, Owen Reed, Jamal Shenille and Conan Renshaw visited Nene Park Academy to take part to take part in an inter-school Futsal tournament hosted by Peterborough United Football Club.

1. Ken Stimpson firstly played Nene Park Academy, winning 3-1 with Ryley scoring one goal and Jamal scoring two.

2. The next match was against St John Fisher and once again they won this 3-0, with Ryley getting a hatrick.

3. In the final match of the tournament they took on The Peterborough School and narrowly missed out with a finishing score of 2-3, once again goals in this match were by Ryley.

Their results secured them a place in the final against The Peterborough School and this was a very tense match. Despite being 2-0 down the boys kept their defence strong and continued to attack pushing forward and with  Ryley scoring 2 late goals this brought the final score to 2-2.  Penalties awaited, it was best of three. Owen, Lemar and Ryley rose to the challenge and it was still a draw, so it was down to sudden death penalties. Excellent goal keeping from Adam saving a very important penalty it was left to Louis to successfully take the next shot, meaning the boys were victorious winning 4-3 in the penalty shootout.

Overall all teams played some great football over the course of the afternoon.  Awards were presented by Peterborough United and Ryley Barefoot was named player of the tournament.

Congratulations to all the Year 10 team!

Best wishes

Math Resources
With the new half term a week in and students halfway through their PPEs time seems to be going very quickly. I have managed to source some new resources that look at the key topics for the crossover between foundation and higher tier.

If students are not already using the resources now is a perfect time to start. Every week I will be sending out resources students can start using at home called the final countdown, there are only 51 teaching days to the first maths exam on the 24th of May and revising gradually is much more effective. Using the countdown alongside Hegarty and other revision resources will really make the difference to closing the gap on areas students still have issues with. Please find attached week 1 of the new extra questions students can do at home with the support of parents as mark schemes and examiners reports are also attached.

Also attached is a Personal Learning Checklist so students can track what they feel they have mastered and what they need more help on. This can be used alongside Hegarty maths which has video tutorials to help students understand topics. If you would like access to more look back at previous weeks on the old resources as these are equally as useful, please feel free to email me personally for advice and more resources to help Year 11s revise at l.donnelly@kscs.org.uk .

Revision guides are also available in school at cost price saving you more than 50% on the RRP. There are 3 books at £2.50 each and an answer book for £1. Please see your class teacher or Mr Hussain or Mr Donnelly if you wish to purchase these. Alternatively you could pay on the schools parent pay system.

Year 7 – Class of the week
On Wednesday 21st February unit 5, I was invited to listen to the stories created by pupils in 7B1 during their History lesson, about the Black Death. I was pleased to see the enthusiasm and confidence of the pupils who were putting themselves forward to read their stories. Most of the pupils have excelled at including as many features of the story as possible.

A huge well done! to:

Muhammed Atif, Quasim Ayub, Daisy Blakemore-Creedon, Tyler Crowson, Charna Dunne, Aaron Goulding, Ella Greenaway, Toby Hancock, Charlie Harrison, Owen Hill, Anaya Layton, Declan Mooney, Daisy Morgan-Smith, Abdul Nadeem, Talia Perna, Paige Posnett, Khadijat Quadri, Emily Richardson, Saffron Roly, Chanaise Smith, Arushi Sudra, Roxanna Tansley, Gerda Vilcinskaite, Tierney Whittington and  Scarlett Wyer.

Also, thank you to Miss Walker for encouraging and inspiring the pupils and inviting me to their lesson.

Year 7 Football Tournament
Before half term I had the pleasure of taking the year 7 boys to Nene Park Academy to take part in the Peterborough Schools Football Tournament. There were group stages to kick the tournament off and we were drawn with; Hampton Gardens, Jack Hunt, Stanground and City of Peterborough Academy (COPA)

In the first game we had to play a very well organised Hampton Gardens. The boys were on the back foot from the word go. Taylor Knight kept them at bay with some wonderful saves, however with a few minutes to go they broke the deadlock to take the game 1-0.

In the second game the management staff made a few tactical changes and as a result against Jack Hunt we carried more attacking threat but were unable to break the defence to score. The game ended 0 – 0 needless to say that was the first point on the board.

The third game saw us take on COPA and with a very strong forward line they steam rolled the Kenny defence to take a 2-0 victory. The fourth and final group game had the boys drawn against Stanground. The boys picked themselves up and put in an excellent performance creating chances but it was Harvey Edwards that gave us the vital goal and a 1-0 victory. With three teams progressing through the group stage the boys had put themselves right in contention and it came down to the result in the final game to see if the boys progressed.

When the final totals were looked at the boys failed to go through finishing fourth in the group and missed out on goals scored by 1 goal. I would like to thank all the boys for their hard work and efforts on the evening.

“Brief In a Day” Event, Friday February 9th
As part of our ongoing careers programme, Year 8 students were invited to take part in an event delivered by the Ideas Foundation. Students gained an insight into careers within creative industries; the different types available, what they entail and how to get into them.

As part of the event, students learned more about the power of advertising and had fun discussing well-known slogans. In groups, students formed mini ad agencies and were asked to come up with creative campaign ideas to promote wellbeing.

This gave them the opportunity to think about areas including sleep patterns, diet and exercise together with developing skills in teamwork, communication, and presenting. At the end of the day, they pitched their ideas in a Dragon’s Den style and received feedback from the Ideas Foundation Team
