Kamal Hyman Workshops
Throughout the past six weeks, Kamal Hyman has been visiting the school once a week to undertake Motivational Workshops with some of our Year 9 students

During this time, Kamal’s focus has been on raising aspirations through his ‘Aim a Little Higher’ programme which he has developed and delivers to thousands of young people every year.
The students have been encouraged to focus on themselves, to boost their confidence and self-esteem, as well as explore lots of different options for further education or career choices. They have learnt some valuable skills surrounding financial responsibility, personal accountability and suitable body language for interviews and jobs. It has been a real privilege to be involved in these sessions and see the change in some of the students’ attitudes!

Wellbeing at KSCS
On World Mental Health Day our Wellbeing Ambassadors ran a word search competition to find words or activities they could do in the 'Take an hour to yourself' campaign.

We would like to thank all the students who took time to enter and from all the correct entries, which there were many, we selected a winner at random. We wish to congratulate Jasmine Smith for being our winner, Jasmine received a 'You are Awesome' book which was presented to her in assembly.

We hope that you will all find time to 'Take an hour' for yourself over the half term break.

Careers Update
As I mentioned in the newsletter at the end of the Summer Term there is so much going on in and out of school regarding preparing our students on their journey into the world of work that I would share with you at the end of each half term what has been happening.

In September Year 12 students visited Cambridge University, attending a lecture and having a tour of Trinity College.  Our Careers Advisers have been in school meeting with Year 11 students to help them prepare, guidance notes have been agreed with students and if you would like to see these please do ask you son/daughter or contact me.  Kamaal Hyman a motivational speaker has been holding workshops for some Year 9 students over the past six weeks, motivating and encouraging them to make plans for their future.  Our Year 7 students attended a Maths Challenge delivered by Travelex, this was a fun day of activities showcasing how Maths is used in many different job roles, many thanks to Mandy Parkin and her team at Travelex.

During October BGL presented at our Post 16 Assembly sharing the opportunities for young people, they have many job opportunities and apprenticeships on offer please do see their website for further information.  Many thanks to BGL for sparing their time.  A small number of Year 9 students visited RAF Wittering observing other students taking part in The Challenge Cup, a competition between all cadets in the area, this also raised awareness of the many different jobs available within the RAF and the different routes into these jobs.  We also hosted 12 Spanish Students for three weeks, many thanks to our International Buddies in school.
November is also a very busy month with visits to The Skills Show in Birmingham, “Hidden Job Market” workshops delivered by Allied Bakeries, Speedibake, Pioneer Foods, Tesco and Sainsbury’s, Royal Sun Alliance finance challenge and HSBC financial workshops. Please see December’s newsletter for updates on these events.

If you require any further information on our programme please do contact me via email a.ayre [at] kscs.org.uk or phone 01733 765950 , our extensive Careers Education Information and Advice Programme is on our website should you wish to see what your son/daughter can expect during their journey through school.

Year 7 news
I would like to take this opportunity to applaud the year 7 cohort that joined us in September this year.

It has been an absolute pleasure to have been part of the beginning of your secondary school journey. The level of organisation, resilience and maturity I have seen in many students should be applauded and celebrated. I know I speak for the rest of the staff body when I say well done and that you have been a delight to teach.

I would also like to publicly praise and thank the year 7 tutor team for being such a fantastic support structure for the year 7s so far this year. Our team is a strong one and it is reflected in the students successes so far this year. I would like to nominate the year 7 tutor of the term to be Mrs Surman. She shows such compassion and integrity in tutor time and because of this all students have such a high level of respect for her.
Congratulations to all year 7 students that received a certificate this week to reward their collection of positive connect points or their Attitude to Learning in lessons. There were so many of you that stood up and were applauded in front of the rest of the cohort in the rewards assembly on Monday, I hope you are as proud at home as we are here.

Mrs Read and I have had little uniform issues to deal with so thank you, this is appreciated. Please continue to ensure your child is dressed and organised appropriately for school so our conversations with you can continue to be ones about your son/daughters learning and achievement.

We hope that you all have a restful break and we look forward to seeing you next term.

Year 11 Tournament
On Friday I took a group of year 11 students and one year 10 student to the prestigious Peterborough schools football tournament held at Nene Park Academy on their 4G It was a selective tournament with just the four teams between KSCS, Nene Park Academy, Bourne Grammar and Holbeach Academy.

Format was that it was 7v7 and we played each other twice, winner of league taking the spoils.

First up was Holbeach. KS started well with Boldero seeing a fine shot saved and Shenille-Khan not being able to capitalise on the rebound. Currie in goal produced an excellent one handed save. A through ball from Boldero saw Moore through on goal, but he was illegally tackled resulting in penalty. Up stepped Barfoot, but his drive down the centre was parried by the goalkeeper 0-0

NPA next and it was a tightly contested games which saw NPA hit the post. Neither team really gave anything away. The introduction of sub Barfoot then saw him score a lively individual goal ghosting past 3 players before scoring bottom corner.  Tactics took a hit when Moore was illegally tackled resulting in a heavy fall which then ended his participation in the tournament. It looked set for KS to gain all three when Currie inadvertently stepped out his area with the ball. Unfortunately NPA then scores from the resulting free kick. 1-1

Bourne Grammar came next and the team looked very good. Bourne were exceptionally quick on the break and managed to score on the counter. Another attack saw a simple tap in converted before they added a third without reply 0-3

After the break Coach Hughes then made the changes based on the previous showing of teams as KS needed points moving Camfield to spearhead the attack.

Playing NPA again, saw Barfoot and Camfield passing well with the resulting shot from Fox just wide. Barfoot broke the deadline with a fine drive well outside the area. Both Boldero and Camfield saw their efforts go agonisingly wide. Fox then saw another shot saved whilst he prevented a goal bound effort at the other end. 1-0

Holbeach Academy came up again, Ksenzovas saw a close range effort go wide. A long throw saw the ball sail past all the players in the area and into an empty net with referee judging Ksenzovas getting the last touch. Another attack saw Camfield finally get the goal he deserved. However sloppy defending saw Holbeach grab a lifeline. Boldero again peppered the opponents goal with long range efforts, until Barfoot added a third. The same player then brought out another great save from the goalkeeper, and in the closing minutes a goal line scramble saw Griggs bundling the balk over the line to make it 4-1

Bourne was the final game. With tactical decision to use Fox as last man exploiting his pace. Nervous defending from KS gave away a needless corner, but both sides found their shots going wide. Both Boldero and Barfoot were left frustrated by some good goalkeeping. Camfield and Boldero combining well to see Barfoot shot go wide. In the end the stalemate couldn’t be broken  0-0

Final Placings

  • Bourne 12 points
  • KS 9 points
  • NPA 3 points
  • Holbeach 3 points

The team: Henry Currie, Thomas Fox, Jack Faupel, Louis Griggs, Jemall Shenille-Khan, Lemar Moore, Ethan Camfield, Owen Boldero, Ryley Barfoot and Daivaras Ksenzovas
