Contract type: Temporary one year in the first instance
Contract term:  32.5 hours per week, 8.30-3.30 Monday to Friday, term time only

Ken Stimpson Community School are seeking to appoint a Learning and Inclusion Assistant who works well with young adults, who find elements of school life difficult, supporting the inclusion team to ensure students continue with their learning and maintain a quality of education.

The successful candidate will work within the inclusion unit to facilitate learning for students who are unable to access their normal lessons, establish a calm and productive working environment and support students by responding to their individual needs. Confidence and resilience are key characteristics for this role. The inclusion team are led by a strong team manager and supported by the Leadership Team across the school. Good ICT skills and strong communication skills are essential to the role.

Responsible to  Behaviour Manager

PURPOSE OF THE POST
The purpose of the post is to work within the behaviour unit to ensure the quality of education is maintained.

MAIN DUTIES
Support for Students

  • At the direction of the class teacher, assess the needs of students and use knowledge and specialist skills to support students’ learning both in and out of class
  • At the direction of the class teacher, organise and manage appropriate learning environment and resources
  • Establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students within the behaviour unit.
  • Support students consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
  • Encourage students to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all students in activities
  • Provide feedback to students in relation to progress and achievement
  • Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required on student achievement to the class teachers and Heads of Year.
  • Work within our established behaviour management policy to anticipate and manage behaviour constructively, promoting self-control and independence
  • Deliver learning activities to students
  • Make effective use of opportunities provided by other learning activities to support the development of Students’ skills
  • Use ICT effectively to support learning activities and develop students’ competence and independence in its use
  • Select and prepare resources necessary to deliver learning activities, taking account of students’ interests and language and cultural backgrounds
  • Supervise students during break times
  • Any other reasonable requests made by the Principal to cover areas related to student supervision.
