Message from the Principal - Importance of Beginning the New Term on the Right Note
Welcome back to this year’s summer term at Ken Stimpson Community School. We have a lot to look forward to over the coming weeks and months:
  • We are really lucky to have a good run into the exam season with the way term dates have panned out this year.
  • A core priority is a focus on controlled assessments and practical examinations - but not at the expense of examination preparation.
  • There will be no study leave for students this year and Mr Erwin will confirm those details with you in due course. Also, in a break with tradition, Year 11 Graduation Day will now take place after the final GCSE exam.
  • Following last year’s very successful trial, Year 9 students will roll up early to begin their GCSE courses that Mr Walji is currently finalising. More details to follow.
  • Year 8 students will join Upper School tutor groups and there will be a graduation event for these students.
  • Sports Day – hopefully the weather will be kinder this year!
  • The annual glitz and glamour of the Year 11 and Year 13 Proms.

I would urge students and staff to hit the ground running this term and to ensure that every lesson counts.

I have also asked staff to ensure that our uniform rules are strictly enforced from the beginning of this week.

Easter revision

Congratulations to all students involved in any revision classes over the Easter break.  In total 250 students came into school for additional support in preparing for their formal examinations.  As ever, I am grateful for the staff who committed their time to this worthy cause. I am sure that this dedication will pay off.

Sports Relief

Towards the end of last term, Mrs Bamber arranged a number of activities in support of Comic Relief, including a Sports Relief Mile, Staff versus Post 16 students and Year 11 Dodgeball match at lunchtime.  Students were allowed to wear their own clothes for a small donation of £1 to the charity. Students and staff embraced the day with relish and everybody seemed to have a good time.  I certainly enjoyed walking the mile with Year 8 students in the morning.  I am pleased to be able to report that the day raised an amazing £2629.31 to go to this charity.

Chinese Visitors
On Tuesday 12 April Ken Stimpson students welcomed 10 students from China into school. Our overseas visitors will be spending the next 10 weeks shadowing students in Year 8 and 9.

The students will be sharing with Ken Stimpson what life is like in China for a 12/13 year old in school and at home. The students who are visiting the UK are undertaking a programme through The St Neots English Centre.  Whilst in Peterborough they will be staying with host families.

We express a warm welcome to our visitors and thanks to our Year 8 and 9 Buddies. This opportunity for our students and community enriches our International School Status.

Year 11 Updates
With a matter of only three weeks (and counting down) to the English examination on 3 May time is truly precious! I am sharing with all Year 11 key information this week and I felt it was equally important to share with you, as parents / carers as well.

The school has a no Study Leave policy. This means that all students need to continue attending every lesson in which they have an examination to complete.  After the final examination is completed we will either accommodate the students as it is difficult to leave the campus or allow them to arrive late / leave early as it fits with their timetable. We also reserve the right for students with outstanding coursework or ECDL qualifications to remain in school to complete these so they maximise their future.

Attendance
The race of attendance is very close this week. Success holds the lead but hot on their tail are Excellence and Aspire. Now that Easter is over, we need to work together to attend school and increase these figures. We are in a very important term with year 11 and Post 16 exams looming. Let us wish them GOOD LUCK as they work to Attend today - Achieve Tomorrow.
