Years 7, 8 and 9
Year Seven
Teaching classes are based mainly in mixed ability tutor groups of approximately 26 students for most subjects in Year 7. Setting according to ability takes place in some subjects before the end of Year 7. We provide a broad curriculum consisting of:-
| Subject | Number of units per week |
| English | 4 |
| Mathematics | 4 |
| Science | 3 |
| History | 2 |
| Geography | 2 |
| Religious Studies | 1 |
| French | 3 |
| Design and Technology | 2 |
| Information Technoogy | 1 |
| Physical Education | 2 |
| Art and Design | 2 |
| Music/Drama/Dance | 3 |
| Personal, Social and Health Education | 1 |
Some of these subject areas may be unfamiliar to parents and during the year we hold 'curriculum' evenings when you will be invited to experience the same learning opportunities as your son/daughter. Subject staff are available to answer questions in an effort to provide you with a full picture of what happens in the classroom. These evenings have proved very popular with parents with a few surprises about how teaching has changed for the better!
Years Eight and Nine
The time given to subjects changes slightly from that allocated in Year 7 due to a variety of pressures on the Curriculum. The use of setting and banding arrangements for teaching classes in a number of subject areas increases.
