Travel and Tourism

This is a new qualification available in the new academic year 2010/11 which has been revised to fit the new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

The aims of the course are to:

  • Give education and training to travel and tourism employees.
  • Give opportunities for travel and tourism employees to acheive a nationally recognised Level 2 vocational qualification.
  • Give full-time learners the opportunity to enter employment in the travel and tourism sector or to progress to higher vocational qualifications such as the BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Travel and Tourism or the BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Aviation Operations.
  • Give learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

There are currently two aspects of the course available: the Level 2 Extended Certificate and the Level 2 Diploma. One of these courses will be chosen depending on student demand, however the better course for students to take is the Level 2 Diploma as this offers a better qualification.

The Level 2 Diploma

This course consists of 360 guided learning hours and 3 mandatory units plus selected optional units that provide for a combined total of 60 credits. This qualification is equivalent to 4 GCSEs grade A* to C.

The Level 2 Extended Certificate

This course consists of 180 guided learning hours and 3 mandatory units plus selected optional units that provide for a combined total of 30 credits. This qualification is equivalent to 2 GCSEs grade A* to C.
