Connexions Library
With the many changes in 13-19 education, information is crucial to students to help them make informed choices about their futures. In support of the it’s careers’ programme, Ken Stimpson Community School maintains a comprehensive and up-to-date Connexions Library, which is located in the teaching area of Werrington Library. The library is accessible to students at lunch times and during lesson time if no classes are using the area. Both parents and students are able to use the Library out of school hours when Werrington Library is open.
The traditional careers and education area contains an extensive occupational section which includes information on a wide range of careers. Information leaflets about work are available to take away, magazines to browse, books for loan and appropriate websites are advertised in school and these are listed below. Leaflets from professional bodies are also available. College prospectuses are available to take away, giving information about both post 14 and post 16 options.
The university section includes a wide range of current University Prospectuses, key reference books such as The Big Guide (The UCAS official guide to University and College Entrance), Heap’s Degree Course Offers and The PUSH Guide to Which University. Literature is available to those students considering a gap year. Many leaflets and information packs about student finance are available to take away.
The Library includes not only accurate and objective information about learning and career opportunities and progression routes, but also literature about personal and lifestyle issues which effect young people: information is available about health, housing, financial support, relationships, rights & the law, travel and transport, volunteering and local/national support & advice agencies.
Should users of the Library not find what they need, Mrs Jarvis, Head of Resources and Careers Co-ordinator, is happy to help.
