Enterprise Activities

Ken Stimpson Community School promotes enterprise in all of our students.  We provide programmes for every student, in every year group, to participate in.

Students in Key Stage 3 are encouraged to track their progress each term by using the My Enterprise Passport in their planners. This enables them to follow their progress in each subject per term. Once they have achieved an Enterprise stamp in every subject they will be rewarded with a certificate. Achieving a certificate in all three terms will be rewarded with a shopping voucher at the end of the academic year.

Year 7

The challenge for each year 7 class was to complete 1 acrostic poem using the word Teamwork, which is one of Ken Stimpson Community School's Footprints to Success.  Each team was also given 6 keywords that need to be incorporated into their poem: enterprise, grow, challenge, ideas, achieve and confidence.

Year 8

The year group will be split into smaller groups to take part in the Design and Technology collapsed day. This will consist of a variety of activities such as designing and making a bag for life, jewellery and biscuits. Students will also take part in packaging and marketing sessions for their finished products, which will then go on sale in the school shop and at the spring fair.  All profits made will be re-invested into next year's programme. At the end of the year students will be rewarded with a lunch celebrating their success.

Year 9

The Motivational Outreach Team from RAF Wittering were busy getting their equipment ready for the Year 9 Enterprise Day. Groups of students attended the sessions during the day to develop their teamwork, leadership, trust and communication skills through carrying out practical tasks.

 Year 10

180 students were put into teams of 10 and were given the challenge to create an innovative service or product. The whole experience saw the students prepare action plans, financial statements, posters, brochures and even TV ads. The talent was endless, and at 2.30pm the teams through to the final were put in the gruelling position of presenting to “The Dragons”. After a nail-biting 30 minutes the winner was announced. “Revoaster” won the challenge with an idea of a revolutionary toaster: yes it is a toaster that butters your bread and puts jam, marmalade or indeed anything else on your toast.  It even has a pot incorporated to heat up your beans!  And for a mere £59.99.

Year 11

Under the watchful eye of Miss Johnson and Mr Smith, Year 11 held a Vendeur De Creps in the conference centre. They completely transformed the area with French flags, a Bureau de Change and a pancake stall. Word spread and soon there where queues of students at lunch times buying homemade pancakes. This activity explored all six Footprints to Enterprise for Year 11.  Profit at the end of an extremely successful week was £140, which was donated to Children in Need.

Post 16

Post 16 are involved in a Young Enterprise programme, in which they are split into teams. Each team will gain practical experience of enterprise by setting up and running their own real company over the course of an academic year. They elect a board of directors from amongst their peers, raise share capital and market and finance a product or service of their own choice. At the end of the year they present a report and the company accounts to their shareholders. This activity allows students to gain experience of the real world, of taking responsibility and of being accountable to their shareholders for the running of the business.
