Leader of Literacy and English as an Additional Language

Deadline:                  Apply by noon on Monday 9 May

Do you have?

  • a passion for language
  • a good track record of leading developments across a team
  • the desire to inspire students and staff
  • the motivation to make a real difference
  • excellent people skills
  • a willingness to work hard, strategically and apply Level 5 leadership qualities.

If so, leading the Literacy and English as an Additional Language at Ken Stimpson is the role for you!

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and inspirational practitioner who wants to take on a strategically-important middle leadership role within an innovative 11-18 school. This role has a very clear focus on ensuring our students build on literacy skills gained in primary school and that these are developed to equip them to be successful in their journey towards Key Stage 4 qualifications. You will have an excellent knowledge of establishing best practice with respect to literacy across the curriculum and the ability and enthusiasm to motivate students and staff in delivering literacy across the school. You will also have the ability to raise expectations and aspirations of students of all abilities.

Students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) make up 22% of our school community, and the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that these students are making accelerated progress and receiving the best provision available. Our students need to be competent speakers, listeners, readers and writers of English in all its forms: including academic literacy.

The successful candidate will teach a 50% timetable with the remainder of time prioritized for partnership teaching.  Training and development in this aspect of the role will be provided in conjunction with the EAL Academy.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher and innovative thinker who will lead the EAL strategy and be responsible for planning and implementing interventions for our EAL learners; measuring the impact of interventions; monitoring the progress of EAL students, and also for developing and improving EAL teaching and learning throughout the school. Suitable candidates will have some experience of implementing successful strategies across a team of staff. Knowledge and experience of both EAL and literacy strategies for raising achievement is essential, as is the ability to develop links with all other curriculum areas.

Ken Stimpson Community School is a mixed 11-18 comprehensive school situated in the north of the city of Peterborough.  We are committed to equality of opportunity and safeguarding the welfare of children. Applicants will be subject to full employment checks, including an enhanced DBS disclosure.
