The following students were nominated as they have been ‘Buddies’ to our visiting Chinese students: Katie Mostowyj, Joel Fuller, Tyler Marchant, David Cox, Josh Bailey, Anastasia Bogdanova, Lucie Richards, Michaela Zigova, Saffron Fletcher and Lily Watkin.

Lower School students were nominated for their outstanding attitude towards learning: Krisha Kukaneswaran, Jaydon Cox, Natania Wogan and Roy Loasby.

Aspire House: Gemma Langwade working exceptionally hard in lessons and, in particular, Chemistry.  Oscar Dobslaw for achieving top marks in his Dance Practical Exam. Amber Bollons for trying hard in her exams. Chloe Fountain for having the highest positive Connect points in Aspire Upper School. Peter James for a fantastic year, for being focused ready to start his GCSEs.

Integrity House: Laura Harris, Jordan Bull, Jack Quinn, Jack Fountain, Mia Horsfall, Zoe Hibbert and Toma Mackeviciute have been nominated for continually working hard.

Success House: Laura Staeber and Malies Pfeiffer, our exchange students from Germany, for their academic progress whilst studying at Ken Stimpson. Marc Humphreys the achieving the highest positive Connect points in the whole school!

Excellence House: Lauren Tyler, Laura Griffin, Rita Couto, Bethan Smith, Maria Balde and Niks Lelevs.

For the best performing students against target in their respective year groups. Céline Chicane for her consistent hard work and effort.

 

It really is heart-warming to spend time with students who have either done something exceptional or who consistently apply themselves day in and day out.  All too often, these students can be overlooked in the hustle and bustle of a busy school term. The opportunity to take time out to congratulate these students and to write to their parents or carers to extend our congratulations is always one of the highlights of the half-term.

House Presentation Day – 21 July  2016

Our annual awards and celebration event always takes place on the penultimate day of the school year.  Students will be awarded a number of Faculty and special awards over the course of the day in recognition of the work ethic they have shown over the course of the whole school year.  Teachers will be nominating five students per class for Faculty awards after the half-term break, so it’s not too late for students to make their mark!

I would like to thank you all once again for the tremendous support that you have shown us since Easter.  I trust that you enjoy a lovely holiday, whatever you have planned.

This gives parents the opportunity to come in to school and speak to teachers about the progress their child is making and the learning that has been taking place in various lessons. On arrival we headed to the Fitzwilliam Museum where we viewed paintings by Reynolds and Monet discussing the different styles used.  The students got to handle some of the museum’s armour collection before an interactive art session, they worked on a self-portrait and mixed this with designing a piece of armour, producing some impressive pieces of work.

 

From here we took a short walk, in torrential rain, to St Catharine's College for a short tour of the college’s facilities visiting the library, the chapel and then we took lunch in the main dining room. 

Next stop was ADC theatre, this time in glorious sun, touring the back stage area and changing rooms.  Students then participated in a drama workshop, exploring some different styles of acting.

Throughout the day we were accompanied by four student ambassadors all in their final year of study at Cambridge University and this allowed the students to interact with them and the opportunity to ask them first hand of their experiences whilst studying. 


Students rose to the various challenges that we set them admirably and all of the students now have aspirations of attending university in the future.

We stayed with some of the students from a class in the school. When school ended we all went to the homes that we would be staying in for the next 5 days and met our Italian host families. The next day we went to Italian school from 8am to 1:30pm, we had a geography and history lesson. After that we took a double decker train to Bologna and did some sightseeing. It was fun!

On the next day we went to the school and had and English and Italian. Then visited Parma and did some more sightseeing and shopping. The next day we visited a museum and had a guided tour of Reggio near the school and learnt about all the history it was very interesting. Then we went back to the school and had a delicious lunch there and listened to music and danced with our Italian classmates.

On the Saturday we went to Gardaland, a really popular Theme park in Italy, and went on a ton of amazing rides! On the Sunday we said our goodbyes and sadly left Italy, even though we were all happy to be able to see our families again. Overall we had an amazing trip and was one of the best times we've ever had.

Year 10 GCSE Italian students

It therefore makes sense that children are encouraged to drink more water at school.  Several years ago, we decided that, in addition to the normal drink facilities available at break and lunchtime, we would allow students to drink water during lesson time.

For this scheme to be successful, we need to ensure minimum disruption to class routine and the following criteria must be adhered to:

•    Only water may be consumed – no squash, juices or fizzy drinks

•    Students will not be given permission by their teachers to fill their bottles during lesson time.

•    Students will be expected to use the toilet facilities at break and lunchtime only.
