Science Trip
On Wednesday 13 July a group of Triple Scientists visited the Natural History Museum in London. The 14 Year 10s travelled on the train and on the underground - a first for some students!

The museum didn't disappoint and neither did the behaviour of our lovely students. Even under the strain of crossing the roads at Marble Arch to get to McDonald's, or walking the length of Hyde Park (with short legs!), the Year 10s were a credit to the school. There were a couple of hiccups, but we're going to blame rush hour travel for that, and we all got back (eventually) safe and sound!

A big thank you goes to to Mr Gaduzo for sharing the responsibility of the day and to the Science Department who taught during their free time to make this trip possible.

Sports Day
On Monday saw the annual sports day. Having seen sports day cancelled last year due to poor weather, we were hopeful of better weather. What we got instead was a hot summer's day with plenty of sun.

This sports day saw the use of a circuit for the first time. As well as the traditional track and field events, and the non olympic events of tug of war and ball and spoon. The students also experienced new activities such as the inflatables, rowing and cycling.

For the inflatables students had to overcome the obstacles, run up the steps and slide down repeating the process as a House as many times as they could in a given period. In the rowing competitions, each House had four rowing machines and between them, had to clock up the furthest distance. The cycling events took form of a cycling relay as well as a slow riding competition!

The students did exceptionally well, and the day has made us aware of what we can do to make it even better. Teachers were fantastic in their support, and the PE department delivered an exciting sports day!

The results were quite close, congratulations to Success who very much lived up to thier name!

New Year 11 Science summer work
The summer holiday is here and it is a valuable time for students to rest and refresh themselves. However, it is also a time when students can find themselves at a loose end.

In recognition of the heavy course content that students will have to remember for their terminal exams, and to keep information fresh in their memories, the Science faculty is setting summer homework, with the expectation that every student completes it.

We will be using a new resource, ActiveLearn, to set work targeted to each student. They will be given a tutorial on how to use it in class. We would appreciate your parental support to ensure that students complete the work and get the most out of this valuable time.

Global Goals Conference
In 2015 193 countries around the world adopted a set of sustainable development goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all.

KSCS took steps towards that idea of a better fairer world on Friday the 15 of July. Our students worked with current leaders in sustainability learning from their experiences, careers and stories. As each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years students worked creatively to develop solutions to exceed and educate about the SDGs.

GlobalGoals.jpg

For the goals to be reached in 2030, everyone still needs to do their part: governments, private sector, civil society and people like us so watch this space as the ideas and action begin to take shape.
